US wants to paint the world white to save energy

LONDON (AFP) - US Energy Secretary Steven Chu said Tuesday the Obama administration wanted to paint roofs an energy-reflecting white, as he took part in a climate change symposium in London.

The Nobel laureate in physics called for a "new revolution" in energy generation to cut greenhouse gas emissions.

But he warned there was no silver bullet for tackling climate change, and said a range of measures should be introduced, including painting flat roofs white.

Making roads and roofs a paler colour could have the equivalent effect of taking every car in the world off the road for 11 years, Chu said.

It was a geo-engineering scheme that was "completely benign" and would keep buildings cooler and reduce energy use from air conditioning, as well as reflecting sunlight back away from the Earth.

For people who found white hard on the eye, scientists had also developed "cool colours" which looked to the human eye like normal ones, but reflect heat like pale colours even if they are darker shades.

And painting cars in cool or light colours could deliver considerable savings on energy use for air conditioning units, he said.

Speaking at the start of a symposium on climate change hosted by the Prince of Wales and attended by more than 20 Nobel laureates, Chu said fresh thinking was required to cut the amount of carbon created by power generation.

He said: "The industrial revolution was a revolution in the use of energy. It offloaded from human and animal power into using fossil fuels.

"We have to go to a different new revolution that can severely decrease the amount of carbon emissions in the generation of energy."

Introduction ABAP 2

Hi..
On this post I would like to continue my previous post, it is about introduction ABAP.
Before we get to know further about ABAP, first i want to give you a short overview about SAP.
As we know SAP is a very large Application system giving an Enterprise solution regarding their business objective. That is why SAP have a tag line " Best Runs Business, Run SAP".
Below i inserted description about SAP taken from wikipedia : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SAP_AG

SAP's products focus on Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). The company's main product is SAP ERP. The current version is SAP ERP 6.0 and is part of the SAP Business Suite. Its previous name was called R/3. The "R" of SAP R/3 stood for realtime - even though it is not a realtime solution. The number 3 related to the 3-tier architecture: database, application server and client (SAPgui). R/2, which ran on a Mainframe architecture, was the predecessor of R/3. Before R/2 came System RF, later dubbed R/1.

SAP ERP is one of five enterprise applications in SAP's Business Suite. The other four applications are:

Other major product offerings include: the NetWeaver platform, Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) solutions, Duet (joint offering with Microsoft), Performance Management solutions and RFID. SAP offers SOA capabilities (calling it Enterprise SOA) in the form of web services that are wrapped around its applications.

While its original products were typically used by Fortune 500 companies[citation needed], SAP is now also actively targeting small and medium sized enterprises (SME) with its SAP Business One and SAP Business All-in-One.
On 19 September 2007 SAP announced a new product named SAP Business ByDesign. SAP Business ByDesign is a Software as a Service (SaaS) offering, and provides a fully integrated Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution, On Demand. SAP Business ByDesign was previously known under the code name "A1S".[23]

---------end of wikipedia ---------------------------------------------------------------------

When you already involved in SAP area, commonly you will know 3 main areas that you can work with or you can take as your expertise area. There are :

1. Basis, this area for SAP Administrator they are responsible ;

  • Deploy /install the SAP System
  • Administration includes user admin,client admin,backup
  • Configuration includes Printer,RFC,STMS etc.
  • Maintenance includes monitoring the servers, background jobs, system performance and avoiding bottlenecks.
  • He is responsible for the system up and running with better performance.
2. Functional, responsible to implement SAP module at Enterprise define the busines process which suitable with Enterprise. There some business module in SAP that need at least one functional to handle and implement it for Enterprise business solution. Such as Sales Distribution Module, Material Management Module, Production Planing Module, Quality Management Module, HR Module etc.

3. ABAP, person who responsible in SAP development call ABAPer, some ABAPer role such as
  • retrives the data from the database and show it to the end-user with the help of report
  • Responsible for Modification, Enhancement and Customer Development in SAP.
Ok that is the basic knowledge that you have to know in SAP, i hope you get an overview when you want to start get close with SAP / ABAP.

Im running my time right now, will continue with next post OK.
Keep stick around. :)

Introduction ABAP 1

Hello on this section i would like to share my first impression about ABAP programming.

I knew ABAP is about past 5 month ago, exactly on October 2008.
The place where i worked assigned me to take SAP-ABAP academy. This academy take 5 weeks to completed. It have 5 modules that i have to learn and these are :
1. TAW 10-1
2. TAW10-2
3. TAW10-3
4. TAW12-1
5. TAW12-2

Well in TAW10-1 you will learn some introduction about, what is SAP, and all the components. You will introduce with the SAP Interface and sort of T-Code. also ABAP workbench tool for programming ABAP.
On This academy i first time i knew about a large application called SAP, and ABAP as the development language. It is very complex to understand through the System and the Process. That is why, SAP consultant is someting rarely in IT area and an expensive resource to get.
Well i have some hopes by attending and join this academy ill get an expertise about ABAP, but in fact it is something hard to achieve if you dont have a big eager (up n down like me). Honestly until this time i almost forgot what that i have learn in the ABAP academy. This is because i dont give a time to practice and practice that i've learn, and i dont using SAP in a daily basis@ work.
So if you want to have an expertise in ABAP after you joining in Academy ABAP you have to get used with it for example you joining in ABAP project in your work and learn from the senior consultant. Some usefull tool for your own practice you can using mini SAP it is minimal SAP system application that you can install n your PC / laptop. It is also came with official name SAP Netweaver 2004s this is specialized for ABAP workbench object and component in SAP.

Ok i will continue with this topic later...
stick arround ill post another..
